Introduction

"Screw it, just do it." Remember, all the time, a company is simply a group of people. Keep going until you succeed. Be a great delegator. Everything is clear-cut and simple. The best way to become a successful business leader is to deal with people fairly and well. We love going in and trying to shake up industries and doing it better than it's been done before.

Success Secret 1: Be A Leader

The most important thing about running a company is to remember that a company is simply a group of people. As a leader of people, you have to be a great listener, motivator, and very good at praising and looking for the best in people.

Success Secret 2: Treat People Well

I don't think the stereotype of a business person treading all over people to get to the top works.

The best way to become a successful business leader is to deal with people fairly and well. I like to think that's how we run Virgin.

Success Secret 3: Learn To Improve

I love learning. I never thought I was starting a company as such. I just saw situations as I traveled in life where I felt I could improve on the way things were being done by other people.

We love going in and trying to shake up industries and doing it better than it's been done before.

Success Secret 4: Don't Give Up

There's a thin dividing line between success and failure when you start a business from scratch. If you don't have enough money to pay the bills, you go the wrong side of that dividing line. If you can somehow get enough money to pay the bills, you stay on the right side of that dividing line. The important thing is to pick yourself up and start again.

If it doesn't work out that time, keep going until you succeed and don't give up.

Success Secret 5: Keep It Simple

I mean, I'm dyslexic, so I think I've been very good at keeping things simple. As a dyslexic, I need things to be simple for myself. Therefore, Virgin, I think when we launch a financial service company or a bank, we should not use jargon. Everything should be clear-cut and simple.

People have an affinity for the Virgin brand because we don't talk above them or talk down to them.

Success Secret 6: Delegate

The next stage is to be a great delegator and not try to do everything yourself. Try to find people who are better than you all the time. Try to find people who are better than you to put you out of business, effectively. An entrepreneur is not a manager.

An entrepreneur is somebody who is great at conceiving ideas, starting ideas, building ideas, but then handing over to really good managers to manage the businesses. The moment you have more than one business, you can't be hands-on doing everything.

Success Secret 7: Screw It, Just Do It

Screw it, just do it. Everybody will tell you why you shouldn't do it. If you really feel that you have something special, just give it a go.

If you fall flat on your face, pick yourself up and do it again until you succeed.

Conclusion

Running a company means being the leader of a group of people. Leaders listen, motivate, and praise others. It's important to treat people fairly and nicely. We should always try to make things better and learn new things. If we fail, we shouldn't give up and try again. Simple is good because everyone can understand it. It's important to find good people to work with and delegate tasks. Lastly, don't be afraid to try something new and keep going until we succeed.
